A family member had a computer that was running slow and came to me for help.  After examining it, I found that it had the “Personal Security” virus/spyware on it.

It impersonates anti-spyware so it will block anything that tries to remove it, and that alone makes it quite difficult to remove.   There is, however, a very simple way to uninstall it.

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\
  2. There should be a folder named “PSecurityUninstall”, or something similar.  Open that folder.
  3. Click the “Uninstall” link. (Yeah, it’s hid).
  4. That’s it.  You should now be able to run your normal anti-virus apps and anti-malware apps (and I highly recommend that you do!)

I hope this helps someone else out there.
